About the Montessori Approach to Dementia Care Class:
This one-and-a-half hour class teaches dementia caregivers about the Montessori method of dementia care which is based on Dr. Maria Montessori’s work in early childhood education. You will learn about the 10 Montessori principles of dementia care and how to apply them in any caregiving setting. You will learn how to communicate more effectively with the person you are caring for and how to engage them in recreational and personal care activities. Caregivers will learn about the importance of self care and ways to mitigate the challenges of caregiving. With your one-time purchase, you have unlimited access to the class and can learn at your own pace.
The Montessori method of dementia care is low cost and requires no special equipment or tools. No additional medications are required to use this approach to care. Since the Montessori method of dementia care focuses on the individual, care is tailored to each persons needs while maintaining their dignity and independence. Montessori dementia care provides a better quality of life for both the caregiver and the person receiving care.
I’m Robin Ely, a doctor of nursing practice who specializes in dementia care. I’m here to help you on your caregiving journey. It wasn’t all that long ago that I was working in a nursing home giving resident’s their medications, get them cleaned, dressed, and ready for the day, and making sure they had some companionship. So, I know how challenging giving care is. Let’s skip ahead to today; my job is still the same, but I do it at my dementia day care facility. After years of heading into work to care for the dementia patients in nursing homes, I saw things that I believed I could improve to deliver better care. I went back to school and focused my studies on ways to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and for their caregivers. I created this course to share what I have learned with you. Everything you will learn with me is 100% doable by any caregiver in any situation. You will have to apply what you’ve learned. With some patience and practice you will discover a better experience for both you and the person you care for.
